GIS Technician
Job Summary: Working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, the GIS technician is responsible for gathering, creating and converting data for GIS mapping, researching and analyzing data records, plotting maps for various projects and updating the database to ensure the engineering team has access to accurate, up-to-date mapping information. This is an in-office position located in Oklahoma City, OK
Primary Duties/Qualifications:
- Perform wide range of GIS technician tasks from basic to advanced level
- Create, edit, and manage GIS datasets
- Create project-based map layouts
- Support Environmental Coordinator in NEPA and other environmental compliance
- Collaborate with team members for consistency in work products
- Perform high level analysis from multiple sources of data in MapInfo
- Interpret instructions in written, oral or diagram form
- Must have exceptional problem-solving skills using a variety of concrete variables in standardized situations
- Proficient computer skills, including e-mail, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheets, graphics, etc.
- Proficiency in online research and website navigation is required
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to multitask; fluency in English required
Special Requirements:
- 2-5 years’ experience as a GIS professional preferred
- BS or AAS in Geography, GIS, or related field preferred
- Highly proficient in MapInfo Pro 17 or higher preferred (ArcGIS Pro 3.0 or higher is acceptable)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Experience in AutoCAD is a plus
- Must be self-motivated and demonstrate a willingness to provide quality work and follow-through on complex assignments
- Must be a team player and able to work with others
- Ability to accept guidance and constructive feedback from leadership
Working Conditions:
- Work is regularly performed in an office environment with adequate lighting, ventilation, and moderate noise levels
- This position may require extended periods of reaching, sitting and standing, walking and navigating stairs
- Regular use of hands and fingers in operating computers and peripheral equipment
- May be required to lift up to 20 lbs.
- Requires verbal and auditory communication, as well as the ability to interact with other staff and clients
- Must be able to visually inspect work
Salary: Negotiable – based on training and experience.
