TELECOMMUNICATIONS ENGINEER

Job Description: Responsible for assisting in the design and overseeing the installation of telecommunications equipment for both inside and outside plant projects across the rural US. Facilities include electronic switching and routers, point to point private networks, IP Ethernet based networks, FTTH (Fiber to the Home) or FTTB (Fiber to the Business) networks, etc.

Most of the work is carried out with different clients on a project basis with tight deadlines and well-defined milestones for the delivery of project objectives.

Primary Duties/Qualifications:

• Support needs of team members, clients, managers, etc. in providing turnkey solutions

• Review and assist with design of telecommunication network

• Estimate costs for implementation and operation

• Keep abreast of changes in industry practices and emerging telecommunications technology by reviewing current literature, talking with colleagues, participating in education programs, attending meetings or workshops

• Inspect sites to determine physical configurations, locations, pathways, etc.

• Provide and review schematics

• Assist existing facility needs for new or modified telecommunications systems

• Communicate with telecom vendors to obtain pricing and technical specifications for available hardware, software or services

• Ability to take the project from the planning process to project execution and then the closure of the project

• Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill

• Consistently adheres to all company standards, policies and procedures

• Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals

• Must be a team player and able to work with others

• Ability to accept guidance and constructive criticism from superior

Education/Licenses:

Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or other engineering degree eligible for Professional Engineer License. Must have passed an FE exam or sit for FE exam within first year. Must be prepared to continue education through working with professional engineers to obtain PE license. If PE Engineer, must be able to obtain a license in Oklahoma and/or other states.

Working Conditions:

• Work is regularly performed in an office environment with adequate lighting, ventilation and moderate noise levels

• This position may require extended periods of reaching, sitting and standing, walking and navigating stairs

• Regular use of hands and fingers in operating computers and peripheral equipment

• May be required to lift up to 20 lbs.

• Requires verbal and auditory communication, as well as the ability to interact with other staff and clients

• Must be able to visually inspect work

Job Skills:

Analytical problem-solver, with good concentration, excellent math skills, able to work with others, lead the planning and implementation of a project, develop full scale project plans, assemble and coordinate project staff, plan and schedule project timelines, and track project deliverables. Present reports defining project progress, problems and solutions. Ability to read, analyze and interpret reports. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and effectively present information and respond to questions from clients, managers or groups. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Ability to write and speak effectively using appropriate conversation based on the situation; actively listens to others, ask questions to verify understanding and use tact and consideration when delivering feedback to others. Identify and resolve issues timely by gathering and analyzing information.

Salary: DOE – starting at $52,000 annually based on training and experience.  Increases available for passing FE Exam and achieving EI certification.
